02/06/2009   Hot Dry Rock returns to Cornwall

EGS Energy Ltd announced their plans today for an Engineered Geothermal System (EGS) that they are proposing to develop at the Eden Project in Cornwall. Designed to deliver 3MW of electrical output, the system will also supply heat to the biomes at Eden. The proposed system is a doublet (one injector, one producer) each drilled to 3500m. The ambitious project - which has to resolve the issue of  successful reservoir creation - plans to be producing power in 2012. More here:

This newsletter is assembled by Robin Curtis who has a vested interest in this technology and currently works for EarthEnergy Limited - a UK promoter of ground source heat pumps. Notwithstanding - this informal newsletter is intended to provide a focus for all UK activity on ground coupled, water source heating and cooling technology for buildings. This is variously referred to as earth coupled systems, geothermal heat pumps, earth energy systems, closed loop ground source heat pumps etc.

If you have any comments or contributions please do not hesitate to contact the author. Provided that items that you wish to submit are of relevance to the technology I will endeavour to incorporate them as quickly as possible - other commitments permitting.
